Venice symposium Keynote speaker: Dan Hill

We are pleased to announce our keynote speaker for The UrbanIxD Symposium – Dan Hill.

Dan Hill is Executive Director of Futures and Best Practice for the Future Cities Catapult. A designer and urbanist, Dan previously served as CEO of Italian communications research centre and design studio, Fabrica, and has held leadership positions at the Finish Innovation Fund, SITRA, as well as Arup, Monocle, and the BBC.

It’s time to do smart cities properly: prototyping the future street

In this talk, Dan Hill will outline why much of the last decade or so of smart cities practice has not worked; in large part due to a failure to make clear to citizens (and also city politicians) the value of the proposition: just how will these advances materially change the way we live, work and play in cities. How will it change the street? Dan will talk about recent projects, from Arup to Sitra to his current organisation, the UK’s Future Cities Catapult, and the ongoing interest in prototyping interactions at the street level in order to understand the potential for cities in the 21st century.
